DGM HQ A visit to

20.19

DGM HQ.

A visit to Studio Eno this morning. Lots of fun, laughter & some wonderful new sonic treatments courtesy of The Captain. One droning treatment that Eno thought would provide an interesting 5 minutes struck me as far more significant. Brian thought, OK, 30 minutes. I insisted, and he let it run for an hour while we walked around the block. A somber, dark, slowly changing bedrock of gradually enveloping doom. Another morning of fun & laughter for Fripp & Eno, then.

This afternoon, to DGM HQ. A good catching-up conversation with David at the kitchen table (originally acquired by me in 1974 at Putney for the kitchen of 7, Deodar Road). David is stuck with accounting. This will be the last DGM accounts (from December 2003) that David has to endure. From now forwards our distribution arrangements are changing.

Backtracking --

Wednesday evening 31st. March:

Toyah & I went to London for dinner with a girl pal of Toyah's, a prominent newsreader on English tv, and her boyfriend, an actor whose career is currently breaking out. He asked: what is your accent? Dorset. Ah! Wimborne Mr. Actor replied, his own home town, oblivious that Wimborne is also the former Centre of my own Universe.

21.03 The Late Shift is underway.

We are looking at a different approach toFrame By Frame: Second Edition, a nuovo-approach suggested by David. The first Box Set of four volumes will now address the 1969-1974 period, with two volumes of the studio albums & two volumes of live recordings. The second Box will be four volumes covering 1981-2003, studio & live, in the same way.

This replaces the original notion of the first box providing an overview of the entire studio history between 1969-2003; and the second box addressing live work also from the entire period.

21.19 A live improv at the beginning of the 1973 Zurich set, emerging from the No Pussyfooting play-on music, is now into LTIA Part One. Crunch Crunch Crunch! as climbing power chords forward-move without apology and refusing to admit of impediment. Scrunch Scrunch Scrunch! John Wetton, Bass Beast of Terror, is this band's secret weapon. Although there wasn't much secretive about this Giant Storming Smackathon of Beastliness.

22.48 Variant Talking Drums are being considered as we prepare to go home, and to bed.
